Same Old Champs or Switching Things up?

As Golden State Warriors fans we were absolutely rattled to the core and pleasantly surprised waking up to the news of Kevin Durant, a generational talent and superstar, joined our very own team in the Bay Area. The news was so shocking and unbelievable I had to check more than two sources just to confirm it wasn't a sick joke. Once the dust settled we realized this dream had come true. After a painful, heartbreaking loss to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers adding Kevin Durant to our team is a sure way to lift our spirits and brighten our moods. Let's fast forward three years into the future. Thanks to this genius addition to the team, Kevin Durant has assisted the warriors in winning two championships and is in the process of hopefully winning their third NBA Championship in a row. KD (Kevin Durant) likes to tell the media/press he just wants to play basketball but the media has a job to do and they have other topics in mind besides what happens on the court while KD still wears the Bay Areas blue and gold. Kevin constantly faces scrutiny and pressure facing his upcoming free agency. It's a front page headlining story all the reporters want to know if Durant will stay with the Warriors, whom he has won two and hopefully three championships with, or will he be looking to play elsewhere? Us fans have no way of knowing Kevin's true plan and we can only hope he'd want to join us for the possibilities of expanding our dynasty and making the story of the Golden State Warriors reign over the NBA a tale people will talk about for decades to come. But if he chooses to leave the Bay Area what does that mean for us? What does losing Kevin Durant mean for the Warriors?

Kevin Durant isn't the only key component nearing free agency. Klay Thompson (shown in the photo above) will also be a free agent after this 2018-2019 season. Klay Thompson was hand selected and home grown in the NBA by our very own Warriors since 2011. The media will do what the media is paid to do, make stories. The reporters have us fans questioning if Klay Thompson will stay with the warriors or be wearing different colors when the 2019-2020 NBA season starts. Klay has been a staple for this team, he's joined us for the ride for all three of our beautiful championships. He's one of the best two-way players and shooting guards in the entire league. What would happen if we lost Klay?

Before Kevin Durant there was Draymond Green, Stephen Curry, and Klay Thompson. It would also be extremely disrespectful to not mention Andre Iguodala. If Kevin Durant were to leave the Golden State Warriors and if Klay Thompson were to stay, we'd still have all four of our main pieces that contributed to this generations very first NBA Championship in 2015. Don't you think if we've succeeded without Kevin Durant in the past, history can repeat itself? If Kevin left us it would be a devastating loss but it could be much worse. I'd rather have a Kevin Durant-less Warriors with the same ingredients to our 2015 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors than a Golden State Warriors who are without not only Kevin Durant but Klay Thompson as well. Also something to take into consideration, is the fact that Draymond Green will be a free agent the year after that (2020) and of course you can guess what the media is doing revolving around the fact Draymond Green will be a free agent as well. If you can't guess they're putting his free agency under a microscope and a spotlight making us all wonder where he'll go and if he still wants to be a part of this team. When it comes to Klay Thompson I get the feeling he wants to retire in a Warriors uniform. With Kevin Durant and Draymond Green I don't know if I feel as confident predicting their futures.

Dear fellow Warriors fans,
Don't let the reporters and their stories distract you. My message to you is to enjoy the ride while it lasts and realize we're witnessing an organization that may very well be the best team ever put together. This team has the potential to be better than any team from the past and any team the NBA will ever put together in the future. Before our championship in 2015 our fans waited 40 years to see us raise the trophy again. We've been lucky enough to see the trophy come to the Bay 3 times out of the last 4 years. In 2015, 2017, and 2018. As a huge Warrior fan I can admit that we're spoiled, we expect greatness because that's what we've been receiving from our team every single year. Our standards are sky high because our team breaks NBA records every other game. When it's all said and done we're all going to miss what we once had so like I said before enjoy it while it lasts. Instead of worrying about where Kevin Durant will be in 2020 or if Klay Thompson is going to leave us or Draymond Green wants to play for another team, realize that right now in this very moment they're still on the same team attempting to bring another trophy to the Bay Area and that's all that really matters in the moment.
Thank you all for reading,
Appreciatively,
Dan.
