Stephen Curry Robbed of Finals MVP

Stephen Curry has been a member of the Golden State Warriors basketball team since 2009. He has evolved from a rookie to the leader of his team. It goes without saying the Warriors are Stephen Curry's team. During his professional basketball career in the NBA he has accomplished many feats, reached impressive milestones, set/broken records, and exceeded far beyond any sports analysts wildest expectations of the point guard.

Steph has lead his Bay Area squad to the NBA Finals for the past 4 consecutive years. Out of those 4 years Steph and the Golden State Warriors have won 3 NBA Championships. In 2015 Steph earned his first MVP award but the following year he'd achieve something even more impressive than Most Valuable Player. In 2016 Curry was voted the first ever unanimous MVP. The first NBA player to be every judges very first vote as the candidate for the MVP race.

Steph has other notable accomplishments such as:

  • 3 Point Contest Champion (2015)

  • 6x NBA All Star

  • Lead the league in Steals (2016)

  • Lead the league in Scoring (2016)

And more...

My point is that, even if Steph were to retire tomorrow his list of achievements would form an undeniable argument for the Basketball Hall of Fame. But there's one thing missing from Steph's basketball resume. Steph hasn't won a Finals MVP.

Kevin Durant holding his Finals MVP trophy after winning the NBA Finals

Ever since the signing of Kevin Durant in 2016 the warriors have been undefeated in the NBA Finals. Some may say Kevin Durant is the main reason why we're back-to-back NBA Champions. Although the main goal is to win a championship some Warriors and Stephen Curry fans are wondering how he didn't earn the Finals MVP not once, but two times. People felt as though he was robbed of his NBA Finals MVP especially in 2018. Lets take a look at some of the stat comparisons.

Game 1 Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers May 31st, 2018

Kevin Durant: 26 pts | 9 reb | 6 ast

Stephen Curry: 29 pts | 6 reb | 9 ast

Game 2 Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers June 3rd, 2018

Kevin Durant: 26 pts | 9 reb | 7 ast

Stephen Curry: 33 pts | 7 reb | 8 ast | 9/17 3 pt fg

Game 3 Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers June 6, 2018

Kevin Durant: 43 pts | 13 reb | 7 ast

Stephen Curry: 11 pts | 5 reb | 6 ast

Game 4 Golden State Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers June 8, 2018

Kevin Durant: 20 pts | 12 reb | 10 ast

Stephen Curry: 37 pts | 6 reb | 4 ast

If you take a look at the difference in points in Game 3 it's obvious Steph had one bad game this entire series. Steph outscored and outplayed his teammate in 3 out of 4 championship games on the biggest stage of them all. A lot of fans were left confused and frustrated that our bay area hero was robbed of adding NBA Finals MVP to his Hall of Fame argument/resume. Nonetheless we can't be upset with our season ending in a Championship but a lot of us are rooting for Steph to win and many of us were disappointed. In 2015 Andre Iguodala earned Finals MVP for the Warriors. In both 2017 & 2018 KD was rewarded Finals MVP. All of us Stephen Curry fans are just hoping for another chance for Steph to earn his Finals MVP, not from pity, but through hard work and results.
